Vidya Sadhna Yojana (Free Bicycles)


  • OVERVIEW | Due to distant location of higher secondary schools, ST students tend to drop-out of education post completion of Std. VIII.
  • OBJECTIVE | To motivate the girl students to study post completion of Std. VIII in schools and continue their education even if the school is located a few kilometres away from their residence.

  • INTENDED BENEFICIARIES | All Schedule Tribe girl students intending to study in Std. IX
  • ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA | The annual income of the family should be up to Rs.27,000 in rural areas and up to Rs.36,000 in urban areas.
  • BENEFITS UNDER THE SCHEME | The tribal girl students get bicycles for free.
  • KEY ACHIEVEMENTS | The girl students are able to complete their education even if their school is distant from their residence. More than 1.93 lakh girl students have benefitted from this scheme over the last seven years.
